Write a Letter to Those You've  Lost

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! Today is the last Monday of the month and I wanted to do something special before I start with February's blogs. I am happy to announce that February's blogs are going to be all about love and I would to even incorporate a sweepstakes if anyone is interested in my blog. I hope I'm not the only one reading and writing these blogs...Hello out there! Can anyone read me? I'm a big giant goofball as many of you know but now, it's time to talk something serious.

On Thursday, we lost a family member and today, I was debating whether or not to post a blog while my family is in the grieving process. I began thinking of a letter I wanted to write to the ones that I have lost throughout the years. Recently, I lost my grandmother, who was my mentor, to pancreatic cancer in 2011. The pain is still with me today as I live miles away from home. While dealing with the grieving process, I wrote her countless letters telling her how much I missed her and to thank her for all of the amazing memories we've shared together while she was alive. Just by writing, it has helped me immensely with saying my final goodbyes to her. Now, it's your turn, writers.

My challenge for you today is to write a letter to those you have lost. It could be a parent, grandparent, sibling, a great friend, a spouse, or a child. Not only does it help with the healing process, it will help you write and write descriptively. Write vividly about memories and special times together. If your letter gets a little damp from tears, it is okay. I am not religious by any means but just know that that special person or persons in your life has got to a better place and is not in any pain or suffering anymore.

Thanks for reading and happy writing,
Megan Marie.

P.S. Note that I usually ask for you to write a sample of your writing in the comment box but since this is a personal post and writing, please do not feel obligated to post. Some things are private and I respect that. Happy Writing, writers!

If You had a Cookbook...

Hey everyone!
I apologize for not posting anything on Monday, the 19th. I was feeling a bit under the weather and struggled to think of a topic to talk about for this week. Finally, I came up with an idea!

As some of you know, I have been struggling with a weight problem for many many years. After going to the doctor and getting my test results back, I have a clean bill of health but I need to get in shape and choose healthier options at mealtime. So, I came up with the idea...if you, the writers out there, had a cookbook, what would you call it and what type of cooking are you focused on?

I am currently working on a low carb, low fat cookbook to help motivate me to create a healthy menu for my husband and I. If I had a cookbook, I think I would call it, "From the Midwest with Love: Healthy Meals and Snacks from America's Heartland." Besides writing, cooking is another passion of mine and it is so important to me to make sure that my family is living a healthier lifestyle that I grew up with.

So, ladies and gentlemen, my challenge for you is to come up with a cookbook name and a few recipes that you would make weekly and would love to share!

Remember, writers, write what you're passionate about and you will achieve great things in your life. Until next week, this is Megan Marie and I am signing off for another week.

From the Midwest and America's Heartland
With love,
Megan Marie

Think of One Word...And Write!

1/12/2015

Hi everyone!
It is week 2 of my blog and today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite types of poems: One Word Poems.

First of all, one word poems are probably one of the easiest poems to write. At the beginning of your day, think of one word. It can be any word, any word at all. For example, this morning I thought of the word soup. Soup...just as simple as that. As you go about your day, just think of ways to talk about your one word. Since my word is soup, I could say something like...

Soup is the best food of all.
You can make a large batch or just start small....

See how easy it is! Best of all, you don't have make your poem rhyme. If you would rather write a one page short story about your one word, that would be fine too. You can even make a rap about that one word. During the day if you think of a really clever rhyme or a sentence that characterizes your word, write it down. At the end of the day when you have your poem or story all written out, you will have a masterpiece. This type of poetry is an easy way to become inspired to continue writing or to get yourself back into the magical world of writing.

So what are you waiting for? What is your one word of the day? What would you write about?

Today, this is my writing challenge for you writers out there. Choose your one word, write a phrase or a sentence periodically throughout your day, and have fun!

I hope you have a wonderful day and be sure to leave comments about poems that you have come up with and your entries for today's writing challenge.

Happy Writing!

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog!

I have always wanted to create a blog and I cannot begin to tell you all how excited I am about this!

I will try to post a blog every Monday or Thursday (depending on the work week) for you all to get a chance to work on a couple writing workshop samples. Every week, I will be posting about different styles of writing and types of poetry to help you fall back in love with writing. It is my mission to let your voices be heard and see the creative flow through your fingertips into your writings!

I will close this blog today with a challenge. Since it is the beginning of a new year, I thought we would start with a New Year Resolution for writing. For example, my New Year Resolution is to be able to finish my middle grade story in time for our fall/winter book launch! So, writers, what is your writing New Year Resolution? Please, feel free to leave a comment below and I would love answer those comments to help your resolutions become a reality!

I know this is a very short blog and I do apologize for that. I thought I would make an introduction about this blog and to kick off the new year with a writing resolution! Mission accomplished!

I hope you all are having a great start to your week and I will see you all next Monday!

Always,
Megan Marie
