NaNoWriMo Time!

11/8/2015

Hello everyone and welcome to another blog post! I do apologize for getting you late on this subject. I have not had a lot of time to get online but I'm pleased and excited to tell you of a writing experience during the month of November!

That's right, folks, it's NaNoWriMo time again! For those of you who are not familiar with NaNoWriMo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month! It is a worldwide event from November 1-30 for amateur writers and professional writers alike. You write a novel that needs to reach a goal of 50,000 words by the end of the month. You can write any genre of literature that you please and it is a great writing exercise. I highly recommend that you check out their website at http://www.nanowrimo.org. There, you will find all the information that you need in order to get started. I would hurry since we are already day 8 of NaNoWriMo and time is of the essence!

That is all for today!

Happy Writing!

Love,

Megan Marie

Endometriosis Awareness with New Novel

5/19/2015

Hello guys and gals!

Welcome to another blog post! First and foremost, I would like to apologize to you all for not posting as often as what I had in the past. I have had a lot of events with work, trying to get my two books ready and out for you all to enjoy, working on edits for other Amazing Things Press books, as well as dealing with a very personal issue that I will be sharing with you today.

It all started on Pinterest. It's part of my morning ritual: having a cup of coffee in my pajamas while checking my emails, social media updates, and checking my repins on Pinterest. Well, one morning, I came across a Pin that talked about Endometriosis Awareness Month back in March. I stopped multi-tasking to check out the link of this Pin. The link really spoke out to me as I waited for the page to load. The website was called, "Fight Like a Girl". My first thought was, "That is an awesome website title!" As I started scrolling down the page and reading about the posts and comments and merchandise, my second thought was "Wow...". I was stunned. This was the first website that stopped me from whatever I was doing as I was reading these powerful, inspirational stories of women who battled the same disease I had. Then, it gave me an idea.

One of their headers said, "Share Your Story." I was a little apprehensive because I really didn't know what to say except for the basic stuff. As I started to write, my heart just poured all over the page. I started writing personal things that I had never told anybody...ever. As I submitted the post, I knew what I had to do. My heart was telling me, "Ok, May, so you told your story with a website. Now it is time for you to write a novel to help you cope with what is going through your mind."

I have been battling Endometriosis for about 10 years now and it is a constant struggle every month. The pain became so unbearable that I had to go to the doctor to see what my options were to deal with it. She prescribed me The Pill which was to help regulate my irregular heavy periods to regular moderate periods with little side effects. About a month in and I was in the worst pain of my life. Every night for 5 nights, I would be up all night with severe pain, heavy bleeding and I just started screaming and crying. My husband didn't know what to do except to hold me and tell me, "everything is going to be okay." After 4 months of dealing with this drastic change in my cycles, I stopped taking them and hoped everything would go back to normal and for the most part it has. The only reason why I started taking the pills was so I could have a child on my own.

For 2 years, my husband and I have been trying to naturally conceive but we have been very unsuccessful. Right now, we are at the point where we are giving up. We have had so many different occasions to have a child with no problems  and did everything by the book but absolutely nothing has happened. Because we cannot afford to go to a fertility specialist or any type of fertility treatments, we have stopped hoping for our dream child. For a month, I was depressed, angry and just felt betrayed by my own body.  I began writing "Wear Yellow for Hope" as a coping mechanism but then it turned into something more. The characters just started telling me their heartbreaking story and then I realized I was writing about ourselves. My husband and I have come the conclusion that  if we have children of our own, great! If we don't, it is not because we are failures as humans; it just wasn't meant to be and we are not alone.

Please note that we are not trying to sell a pity story and are not trying to take advantage of our readers with our sob story. We are hoping to share awareness about infertility and Endometriosis. It is our way of letting go and dealing with the cards we have been dealt.
Before I close for tonight, I have a writing challenge for you. You didn't think I forgot about these writing challenges, did you? (Just to lighten the mood a bit from this depressing topic.)
Have you or are you battling a problem that makes you feel alone, depressed, and betrayed? How are you coping with it and what are positive ways that you have been dealing with it? What is your story?

As always, thank you guys so so much for tuning in this week. I know it has been a long while but I do apologize. If you have a story to tell, leave it in the comments below. I love you all and I will talk with you soon.

Thanks again and Happy Writing!

Love you always,
Megan Marie

Storm Stories

2/2/2015

Good evening everyone and welcome to another blog.

As we know, the month of February is all about love with Valentine's Day just around the corner. I was going to start off with the idea of writing a love letter for that special someone in our lives but I decided to save that for next week's blog.

So today, I wanted to talk about the weather. Here in the Midwest, there is snow and ice as far as the eye can see. In Missouri, we have quite a bit of snow but if you live in states like Ohio and New York, y'all are seeing a lot more snow than us. I have received several stories from friends and family back home telling me of the terrible weather that Winter Storm Linus brought to their front door. I personally think that is a terrible name for a winter storm but that's because Linus is one of my favorite comic characters from Peanuts...but I digress.

In conclusion, my writing challenge for you today is to write a short story about the worst storm you have experienced in your lifetime. It can be a natural disaster or something personal that you felt was like a storm, leaving you devastated and alone. I can go on and on about examples of storm stories but I will leave the creativity to you writers out there.

So what are you waiting for? Get out our laptops, your pens and paper, and create a masterpiece!

Have a wonderful week and stay warm, Midwest!

With love always,
Megan Marie

Write a Letter to Those You've  Lost

1/26/2015

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! Today is the last Monday of the month and I wanted to do something special before I start with February's blogs. I am happy to announce that February's blogs are going to be all about love and I would to even incorporate a sweepstakes if anyone is interested in my blog. I hope I'm not the only one reading and writing these blogs...Hello out there! Can anyone read me? I'm a big giant goofball as many of you know but now, it's time to talk something serious.

On Thursday, we lost a family member and today, I was debating whether or not to post a blog while my family is in the grieving process. I began thinking of a letter I wanted to write to the ones that I have lost throughout the years. Recently, I lost my grandmother, who was my mentor, to pancreatic cancer in 2011. The pain is still with me today as I live miles away from home. While dealing with the grieving process, I wrote her countless letters telling her how much I missed her and to thank her for all of the amazing memories we've shared together while she was alive. Just by writing, it has helped me immensely with saying my final goodbyes to her. Now, it's your turn, writers.

My challenge for you today is to write a letter to those you have lost. It could be a parent, grandparent, sibling, a great friend, a spouse, or a child. Not only does it help with the healing process, it will help you write and write descriptively. Write vividly about memories and special times together. If your letter gets a little damp from tears, it is okay. I am not religious by any means but just know that that special person or persons in your life has got to a better place and is not in any pain or suffering anymore.

Thanks for reading and happy writing,
Megan Marie.

P.S. Note that I usually ask for you to write a sample of your writing in the comment box but since this is a personal post and writing, please do not feel obligated to post. Some things are private and I respect that. Happy Writing, writers!

If You had a Cookbook...

1/22/2015

Hey everyone!
I apologize for not posting anything on Monday, the 19th. I was feeling a bit under the weather and struggled to think of a topic to talk about for this week. Finally, I came up with an idea!

As some of you know, I have been struggling with a weight problem for many many years. After going to the doctor and getting my test results back, I have a clean bill of health but I need to get in shape and choose healthier options at mealtime. So, I came up with the idea...if you, the writers out there, had a cookbook, what would you call it and what type of cooking are you focused on?

I am currently working on a low carb, low fat cookbook to help motivate me to create a healthy menu for my husband and I. If I had a cookbook, I think I would call it, "From the Midwest with Love: Healthy Meals and Snacks from America's Heartland." Besides writing, cooking is another passion of mine and it is so important to me to make sure that my family is living a healthier lifestyle that I grew up with.

So, ladies and gentlemen, my challenge for you is to come up with a cookbook name and a few recipes that you would make weekly and would love to share!

Remember, writers, write what you're passionate about and you will achieve great things in your life. Until next week, this is Megan Marie and I am signing off for another week.

From the Midwest and America's Heartland
With love,
Megan Marie

Think of One Word...And Write!

1/12/2015

Hi everyone!
It is week 2 of my blog and today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite types of poems: One Word Poems.

First of all, one word poems are probably one of the easiest poems to write. At the beginning of your day, think of one word. It can be any word, any word at all. For example, this morning I thought of the word soup. Soup...just as simple as that. As you go about your day, just think of ways to talk about your one word. Since my word is soup, I could say something like...

Soup is the best food of all.
You can make a large batch or just start small....

See how easy it is! Best of all, you don't have make your poem rhyme. If you would rather write a one page short story about your one word, that would be fine too. You can even make a rap about that one word. During the day if you think of a really clever rhyme or a sentence that characterizes your word, write it down. At the end of the day when you have your poem or story all written out, you will have a masterpiece. This type of poetry is an easy way to become inspired to continue writing or to get yourself back into the magical world of writing.

So what are you waiting for? What is your one word of the day? What would you write about?

Today, this is my writing challenge for you writers out there. Choose your one word, write a phrase or a sentence periodically throughout your day, and have fun!

I hope you have a wonderful day and be sure to leave comments about poems that you have come up with and your entries for today's writing challenge.

Happy Writing!
-Megan Marie

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog!

I have always wanted to create a blog and I cannot begin to tell you all how excited I am about this!

I will try to post a blog every Monday or Thursday (depending on the work week) for you all to get a chance to work on a couple writing workshop samples. Every week, I will be posting about different styles of writing and types of poetry to help you fall back in love with writing. It is my mission to let your voices be heard and see the creative flow through your fingertips into your writings!

I will close this blog today with a challenge. Since it is the beginning of a new year, I thought we would start with a New Year Resolution for writing. For example, my New Year Resolution is to be able to finish my middle grade story in time for our fall/winter book launch! So, writers, what is your writing New Year Resolution? Please, feel free to leave a comment below and I would love answer those comments to help your resolutions become a reality!

I know this is a very short blog and I do apologize for that. I thought I would make an introduction about this blog and to kick off the new year with a writing resolution! Mission accomplished!

I hope you all are having a great start to your week and I will see you all next Monday!

Always,
Megan Marie
